Singer Model 628 Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig-Zag: Replace Gears, Oil, Loose Parts, Set Timing, Thread & Adjust Self-Winding Bobbin

The Singer 628 Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig-Zag Sewing Machine is sturdy and the stitching is beautiful! A friend bought it for $20 at a garage sale, but it had a broken Upper Vertical Gear, loose parts sitting in the top of the machine,  and was about to lose more plastic gears. Doug and I replaced the plastic gears and made a video showing how to take the Singer 628 Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig-Zag apart, how to replace the gears, how to oil the machine, where to put the loose pieces back on the machine, adjust the self-winding bobbin, set the timing, thread and wind an empty bobbin. All of this to help anyone – like me – who didn’t know how to repair this heavy duty machine and is dying to use it!

Below are links for the Video Tutorial, the Gear Set we bought through Amazon, an online page referencing all the Model 628 Replacement Parts (including buying extra bobbins), the Upper Vertical Gear I originally replaced thanks to Heather at SingerOnline.com for identifying the part, and the Free Singer 628 Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig-Zag Manual.

I hope all of this helps! The manual, alone, is impressive. Full of information and detail, I recommend giving this machine some love and care.
