Get Well Flowers for a Friend (a free pattern collage!)

All of this is inspired by a friend who went to the emergency room over the weekend (she’s okay, btw!!). Me being me, I made her a flower bouquet and vase with fun accents I’d like to share! 💐

But first, pictures!!

🌺 Flower pattern

(Modification – I skipped the 1st double crochet row entirely, but we’ll pretend I did it on purpose and not because I failed to see it on my tiny iPhone screen. 😏)

🦋 Butterfly pattern

(Modification – I opted for a sturdier antenna construction by chaining 25, folding in half, joining them where they meet the butterfly body and then attaching.)

🐞 Ladybug 🌱 Stem, Vase and Bouquet Base

(yours truly #lydiahawkdesigns) Instructions below! 👇

🍃 Leaf

I can’t find it!!! But there are so many variations of the same thing online for free! I’ll remember what I did and add those below, as well.

Stem, Leaf & Bouquet Base:

H/8 (5.00mm) hook
Worsted Weight green yarn
Tapestry Needle
1/8″ or 1/4″ dowel (cut to desired length)
Doll stuffing

Bouquet Base (for attaching flowers)
(Ultimately you want to make the base as large or small as needed depending on how many flowers you are attaching.)

ch4, sl st into 1st ch sp
Rnd1: sc6 into ring, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (6)
Rnd2: 2 sc into each around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (12)
Rnd3: *sc1, 2 sc in next*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (18)
Rnd4: *sc2, 2 sc in next*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (24)
Rnd5: *sc3, 2 sc in next*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (30)
Rnd6: *sc4, 2 sc in next*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (36)
Rnd7: *sc4, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (30)
Rnd8: *sc3, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (24)
Rnd9: *sc2, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (18)
Rnd10: *sc1, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (12)

Add stuffing

Rnd11: sc2tog around, sl st into 1st sc, BO

Stem
(Ultimately you want to make the sleeve as large or small as needed depending on how thick your dowel is.)

ch4, sl st into 1st ch sp
Rnd1: sc4 into ring, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (4)
Rnd2 – end: sc4, sl st, pl mk (BO when your stem sleeve is the same length as your dowel and leave a long tail for attaching to Bouquet Base)

Leaf

ch7, dc into 3rd ch from hook, dc3 into same ch sp, dc1 into next, hdc1 into next, sc1 into next, sl st into last ch sp, sl st into opposite side of ch sp just worked, sc1 into sc from opposite side (continue like this), hdc1, dc1, dc4 into last, sl st into 1st dc sp, BO leaving tail long enough to attach to flower or stem

Vase:

N (10.00mm) hook
Lion Brand Woole-Ease (pictured: Oatmeal)
bottom of empty plastic container (I used a shampoo bottle, using an exacto knife to cut the top off)
Doll stuffing
Aquarium gravel (optional – I used it to weight the bottom so it wouldn’t be so top heavy)

ch4, sl st into 1st ch sp
Rnd1: sc6 into ring, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (6)
Rnd2: 2 sc into each around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (12)
Rnd3: *sc1, 2 sc in next*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (18)

* Make as large or small as needed to wrap around your container and also as long as needed to flip inside container

Rnd4: sc18 into front loop only (creates edge for bottom), sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (18)
Rnd5 – end: sc18 until long enough to cover outside and some of inside of container, BO, weave in ends

Add aquarium gravel (optional) and stuffing. I added enough stuffing to make sure the leaves on my stem cleared the top of the Vase, then added stuffing around the stem to center it.

Ladybug:

G/6 (4.00mm) hook
Worsted Weight red & black yarn
Tapestry Needle
Doll stuffing

Ladybug Body:

w/ Red yarn ch4, sl st into 1st ch sp
Rnd1: sc6 into ring, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (6)
Rnd2: 2 sc into each around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (12)
Rnd3: *sc1, 2 sc in next*, repeat from * to * around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (18)
Rnd4 – 5: sc18, BO leaving long tail for attaching to vase

Accents: Using tapestry needle and long piece of black thread, create a line down the center of Ladybug’s back. Using same or separate thread, start by bringing thread up through hole where you want the first black dot to be placed. With same thread tie a knot close to the surface, then insert needle back through hole. This creates a knot that serves as a dot but is now too big to get lost in the hole. Just make sure you don’t pull too hard when you pull your thread back through. Continue for remaining dots.

Ladybug Head:

w/ Black yarn ch4, sl st into 1st ch sp
Rnd1: sc6 into ring, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (6)
Rnd2: 2 sc into each around, sl st into 1st sc, pl mk (12)
Rnd3 – 4: sc12, BO leaving long tail for attaching to Vase

Attach both to Vase and weave in ends

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST! Spritz with your (or their) favorite perfume. In this case I used Chanel’s Mademoiselle. Mmmmm… a little too much, though. Ermm…
