I decided to make my Jigglypuff Bean Bag / Juggling Bag / Hacky Sack Pattern free because I love these little bags so much. Hacky sacks aren’t as popular today as they were in the 90s, but I will push any creation that not only challenges my crochet capabilities in a fun and interesting way, but also encourages the recipient to interact with an object that benefits exercise, hand-eye coordination, balance, etc.
I have created instructions that are unorthodox by traditional crochet standards, but I had to make shortcut notes for myself so that I can recreate my bags. I break the anatomy of the crochet stitch into more parts than just ‘sc1’ and ‘2 sc’. I actually use different colors for the beginning middle and end of the stitch process to incorporate the facial features into the work. Most crochet involves the body and then independently crocheting the embellishments (nose, eyes, mouth, etc). I skip this process to minimize parts falling off, especially for something like this that will get dropped a lot. I use the same notes for my Crochet Monarch Butterfly. It’s challenging, but my freeform works come with video instructions that result in beautiful / sturdy creations. In a way, I’ve learned how to draw with yarn and have devised a way to share this art through written and visual instructions.
I must also state that when you make these and add plastic poly-pellets, they are not intended for pets, babies and toddlers. Small as they are, always be cognizant of what poses a choking hazard for loved ones and house guests. Also, don’t use perishable products as filler, like beans and rise. These degrade over time.
